What is a Yoga Strap
What Is a Yoga Strap
A yoga strap is a long, non-stretch fabric strap used as a yoga prop to provide support, improve alignment, and extend the reach of the arms and hands. A strap can help a practitioner reach the feet or hands in poses where flexibility or body proportions make direct contact difficult. It can also be formed into a loop and placed around the feet, legs, arms, or torso to provide support and help maintain a particular position. Yoga straps are commonly made from cotton or other durable woven materials and are available with several types of buckles or adjustment systems.
A yoga strap does not stretch like a resistance band. Instead, it provides a firm connection between different parts of the body or between the body and the strap. This allows the practitioner to maintain a pose without having to reach farther than is comfortable. Straps can be useful for beginners as well as experienced practitioners, and they are often used to help refine alignment rather than simply make a pose easier.
