How to Use a Yoga Strap
One of the most common ways to use a yoga strap is to create a loop that can be placed around the feet or legs. For example, during a seated or reclining forward stretch, the strap can be placed around the feet so the practitioner can hold the strap rather than reaching directly for the feet. This provides additional reach while allowing the shoulders and spine to remain in a more comfortable position. A strap can also be used around the thighs or upper arms to help maintain alignment during certain poses.
When using a strap with a D-ring buckle, the loose end is generally threaded through both rings and then folded back through the rings to create a secure adjustable loop. The loop should be adjusted so that it provides support without being excessively tight. Straps can also be used without creating a loop, simply by holding the ends to extend the reach of the arms. The strap should provide support rather than be used to force the body farther into a stretch.
